Birds are continually popping up in Van Cleef & Arpels pieces — and it’s easy to see why. Recreating the varied plumage of the enchanting creatures allows the maison to explore its passion for exceptional stones. Case in point? Two exquisite clip brooches up for auction during the June 1 Paris Jewels sale at Christie’s. The Van Cleef & Arpels offerings feature wings that flutter to life with sapphires, mother-of-pearl, turquoise cabochons, diamonds, coral, and malachite. Depicting a hummingbird and a kingfisher, the lots are estimated to bring in upwards of $36,000, in total, and are on view at 9 Avenue Matignon, Paris, beginning May 28.
