Fancy colored diamonds, rare natural pearls, and vintage jewelry from brands like Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Tiffany & Co. are among the items up for auction at Christie’s Important Jewels sale in New York City on June 10. One item creating a stir is a 1930s Zip necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels, which is designed like a zipper with round and baguette-cut diamonds and sapphires mounted in platinum. Several vintage Cartier pieces, including the one pictured, demonstrate one of the brand’s typical blends: aquamarines and diamonds. This collection has been held privately for several decades. The second half of the Kathleen and Martin Field collection, which includes more than 40 exquisite jewels such as a ruby bead and diamond sautoir by M. Gerard will also be up for auction. The first half of the collection sold at Christie’s auction on April 16 entirely sold out for more than $6 million.
