Barbie turned 57 on March 9, and in honor of the iconic Mattel doll, Sotheby’s included a pair of tiny diamond-encrusted shoes and a 3.73-carat diamond ring, both designed by Harry Winston, in its Magnificent Jewels sale on April 4. These custom shoes are a sparkling example of the impact Barbie has had on contemporary fashion. A Barbie exhibit at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris further explores the doll’s influence on fashion. The 16,000-square feet show features 700 dolls and art pieces including styles made for Barbie and her cohorts from fashion notables such as Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, and Thierry Mugler. The exhibition runs through Sep. 18, 2016.
