Brief: Van Cleef & Arpels brings the unique to Bonhams London
BY KAREN AANONSEN
Collectors with a weakness for the unique need look no further than the upcoming Bonhams Fine Jewelry sale in London. While Art Deco pieces — many from covetable Cartier — are listed as a highlight, the December 4 auction’s Van Cleef & Arpels offerings manage to make a statement in and of themselves. Among the notables: A 13.34-carat Burmese ruby ring from 1923 that is estimated to draw in upwards of $157,000. Similarly eye catching is a coral, diamond, and emerald ring designed to resemble opposing dolphin heads. These Van Cleef & Arpels treasures, as well as the rest of Fine Jewelry’s 250 lots, are on display at the Bonhams New Bond Street salerooms beginning November 29.
